Cayo Icacos Catamaran Tour

"Sailing the catamaran from Fajardo to Icacos was the highlight of our Fajardo trip. Open bar with rum, a buffet lunch on the beach and a stop at the reef snorkel to swim with tropical reef fish. Pure Caribbean."

Icacos Snorkel and Reef Snorkel

"The reef snorkel in the middle of the sea is unreal: waist deep clear water with tropical reef fish everywhere. Snorkel gear was included and the speedboat ride back to Fajardo was a blast."

Private Icacos Charter

"We booked the private charter for our family and the captain stopped wherever we wanted. Calm turquoise water, white sand beach to ourselves and excellent fresh fish for lunch."

Cayo Icacos is a tropical island in La Cordillera Marine Reserve, off the south east coast of Puerto Rico. It is reached only by boat from Fajardo, about on the east coast of Puerto Rico. Famous for white sand beaches, palm shade and the offshore reef snorkel where tropical reef fish live in shallow water.

Group catamaran day trips with open bar and lunch start from around $80 per adult, mid-range catamaran-and-speedboat combos from $150, and private charters from $400 per boat. Most include free hotel pickup from Fajardo, Luquillo and Ceiba.

Yes. Catamarans and speedboats carry life jackets for all ages and the reef snorkel is shallow and calm. Most operators welcome children of all ages and infants travel free or at reduced fare. Bring sunscreen, hats and snacks for younger kids.

December through April is the dry season with sunny days, calm seas and minimal rain. May, June and November are also great with fewer crowds. Avoid August through October if you can since this is peak Atlantic hurricane season and tours may be cancelled at short notice.

Swimwear, a beach towel, reef-safe sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, water shoes for the rocky shore and some cash in US dollars for tips. Cameras and phones in a waterproof pouch since the reef snorkel stop is wet. Most catamarans give you a wristband for the open bar.

Icacos pairs naturally with a Palomino Island snorkel day, a El Yunque tour at El Yunque rainforest, an ATV ride to a Luquillo beach or a zipline session at El Yunque. Save Icacos for a calm sea day and use the inland El Yunque rainforest as a backup if the wind picks up.

We recommend booking at least 48-72 hours in advance, especially during winter holidays, spring break and around Easter when Icacos day trips sell out fast. Private charters and small group catamarans go first. Instant confirmation on all bookings.

Yes. Most tours offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before departure are non-refundable. Check the specific tour for details.
